CASTIGLIONE DELLA PESCAIA, Italy (Reuters) - Italy has offered to lead a U.N. peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Romano Prodi said on Monday.
Prodi said he had informed U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan of Italy's willingness to lead the mission which some Italian opposition politicians have warned could prove to be a "kamikaze" mission.
