Investigation opens after blast at UK chemical plant

LONDON (Reuters) - Investigations began on Thursday into the cause of an explosion at a chemical plant in northern England that caused two minor injuries and was soon scaled down from a major alert, police said. 

A Cleveland Police spokesman said in a recorded statement that the explosion had taken place shortly after midnight at the Terra Nitrogen (UK) Limited ammonia plant at Billingham.
