NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York transit workers walked off the job for the first time in 25 years on Tuesday after contract talks failed, stranding millions of people who rely on the bus and subway system each day.
The strike came after the Transport Workers Union rejected an offer from the state-run Metropolitan Transportation Authority late on Monday, shortly before a midnight deadline when the union had said its 34,000 members would walk out if there was no deal.
