NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said on Tuesday the city will lay off 3,000 employees, or about 40 percent of its payroll, and warned of further belt-tightening as it rebuilds after two devastating hurricanes.
The mayor said the hard-hit city was not considering bankruptcy.
