HOMESH, West Bank (Reuters) - Israeli troops should be out of Gaza in late September, ahead of schedule, army chief Dan Halutz said after wrapping up early the evacuation of 15,000 settlers and supporters from the strip and the West Bank.

The removal of 25 settlements in just six days drew a call from U.S. President George W. Bush for a return to an internationally sponsored peace "road map" that envisages the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside a secure Israel.
