MANILA (Reuters) - Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was set to tighten her grip on the Philippine presidency on Tuesday as a Congress committee dominated by allies was expected to steer away from pursuing her impeachment over allegations of wrongdoing.

But the vote on which one of three impeachment complaints to take up is unlikely to draw a line under the months-old political crisis, with the opposition still hoping that public distrust of Arroyo will help it muster the support needed to impeach her.
