QuickCheck: Is Penang facing a fuel shortage?

WITH a global energy crisis emerging due to the conflict in the Middle East, there is concern petrol stations may run dry.

In Malaysia, unsubsidised fuel prices continue to rise, adding fuel to the fire of such speculation.

So is it true Penang is facing a shortage of fuel?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Penang branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says only one oil company is experiencing fuel supply disruption at several petrol stations in the state.

Its director S. Jegan said the sole oil company, Shell, reported a temporary supply disruption due to a delayed delivery ship.

"Shell is taking appropriate steps to address this issue.

"The results of a meeting also found that petrol stations of other brands are not experiencing any problems and fuel can still be obtained easily," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 8), reported Bernama.

He said so far, only one petrol station had issues with the supply of RON95 petrol while five stations had disrupted diesel supply, all involving the same company.
