RUMOURS can spread faster than a refuel on a busy weekend, and recently a claim about a Pasir Pelangi, Johor petrol station went viral.
It was claimed that nozzles at pumps were removed as the station had run out of RON95 petrol.
Is it true that a Johor petrol station is actually out of RON95 petrol?
Verdict:
FALSE
The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has denied claims that a Pasir Pelangi petrol station ran out of RON95 petrol.
Johor ministry director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said enforcement officers investigated at about 2pm on Sunday(Oct 6) after a public complaint went viral on social media.
"According to the station manager, some RON95 nozzles were removed because of a leak in the main underground tank," she said.
"Eight nozzles are not on the pumps, namely pumps number 3, 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 14, and a report on this issue was submitted to the ministry’s Putrajaya offices in July," she said.
She said the step was taken to avoid confusing customers who might think the RON95 supply had run out when the issue was a technical problem with the tank.
"The public need not worry as there are eight other pumps, numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 15 and 16, which are operating as usual and the sale of RON95 continues," she said.
Earlier, social media posts went viral about user complaints that the Pasir Pelangi station had removed several RON95 nozzles.
There were also viral claims that the move was to limit RON95 to Malaysia‑registered vehicles only, and not Singapore‑registered vehicles.
