QuickCheck: Is the govt offering solar panel grants to the public?

MORE people are installing solar panels due to the combined benefits of saving costs and commitment to environmental sustainability.

A website was recently found promoting a new solar panel subsidy from the government called the Green Energy Grant, which purportedly offers households up to RM5,000 to install solar panels.

The site, which carries a photo of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alongside the article, claimed that the grant would make renewable energy more accessible and affordable for everyday Malaysians. Does such a grant exist?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra) has confirmed that no such grants are being offered by the government.

“The article, which claims that the government is offering solar panel subsidies to the public, is not true.

“Always fact check before believing such claims and only obtain credible information from official sources,” the ministry said on its official social media channels.
