Verdict:
TRUE
An emergency call was received at about 11.50pm on Wednesday (July 9) after a fire reportedly broke out at a well-known ice cream factory in the Jelapang industrial area in Ipoh.
"The Ipoh, Meru Raya and Pasir Puteh firemen responded immediately," said Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad.
They were aided by volunteer firemen from Pekan Baru, Menglembu, Pasir Pinji and Bercham, as well as the police and Civil Defence Force.
The fire was largely contained an hour after the teams arrived, though checks continued to ensure there were no lingering embers.
According to Sabarodzi, the blaze started at the rear of the premises before being tackled from multiple directions.
While fighting the flames, firefighters also detected an ammonia leak connected to the factory’s freezer equipment, prompting concerns about hazardous materials.
"The valves and compressors were shut off, and our hazardous materials team is monitoring the site to prevent further contamination," explained Sabarodzi.
No injuries were reported, and the situation was brought under control without endangering nearby businesses, though an official damage assessment is still pending.
A video of the incident has since been shared on social media.
