QuickCheck: Are Home Ministry officers visiting homes to verify MyKads?

Rumours have a knack for resurfacing, much like a photo currently making the rounds on social media.

It claims to show Home Ministry officers visiting homes to verify the MyKads of people.

Is this true? Are Home Ministry personnel really doing this?

VERDICT:

FALSE

The Home Ministry has said that the image circulating on social media and WhatsApp that claims to show its officers making house visits for MyKad verification is not true.

It said in a Facebook post that the person in the photo is not an officer of the Ministry and added that they aren’t from any of its agencies.

“This spread of false information is a repeated slander that the ministry has previously denied,” it said.

It added that the public is advised not to be easily deceived and to always verify the authenticity of information before believing or sharing any news.

“If there are any doubts, the public can contact the Home Ministry or the National Registration Department (JPN) for official verification,” it said.
