A casual task of taking out the rubbish almost turned tragic for a kindergarten assistant when a bicycle, recklessly thrown from the 12th floor of a People's Housing Project (PPR) here, struck her head on Tuesday (March 26) evening.
Azuraini Yazid, 43, who works with the Community Development Department, was walking out of her ninth-floor unit to dispose of rubbish when the incident happened, Bernama reported.
Her husband, Jusri Ibrahim, 48, described the terrifying moment when his wife suddenly fell after being struck by the falling bicycle.
"The incident was witnessed by my daughter, who was on her way to pick up her motorcycle from the parking area.
"Residents nearby quickly rushed to help, and my wife was immediately taken to the emergency unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for treatment," he said when contacted on Wednesday (March 26).
Azuraini received five stitches to her head due to the injury. She was in a stable condition and was allowed to return home this morning.
Jusri added that he had approached the bicycle's owner for clarification. However, the owner claimed that the bicycle, which belonged to his child and was placed in the corridor, had been thrown down by another resident.
Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor confirmed the incident, adding that a statement had been taken from a resident.
"We are conducting further investigations to identify the person responsible," he said.
