CONCERNS have arisen over suspicious letters featuring the Sabah Forestry Department's official letterhead.
These documents are reportedly making rounds and raising alarm among the public.
Is it true that the Sabah Forestry Department has issued a warning regarding these fraudulent letters?
Verdict:
TRUE
The public has been urged to be cautious of letters featuring the Sabah Forestry Department letterhead that solicit quotation offers for services or supplies.
Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Frederick Kugan revealed that unscrupulous parties have been forging letters with ministry letterheads, falsely linking the Sabah Forestry Department in quotation offers for supplies or services to District Forestry Offices.
"We have never issued such correspondence to any company for the purpose of offering supply of equipment or services under the letterhead of any Ministry," he stated in a statement on Friday (Jan 24).
He added that the public is advised to first verify with the Sabah Forestry Department if they receive any letters of this nature.
In addition to the Forestry Department, some state leaders have also fallen victim to scams, including one involving a purported news portal soliciting donations from leaders.
It is understood that one state leader paid RM500 to the scammer, only to discover that the person did not exist in the said news portal and that no such activity or donation drive was being conducted.
The leader, who wished to remain anonymous, has since lodged a police report.
