A VIDEO has gone viral showing a man slapping another individual at what looks to be a workshop.
Captions to the viral video claim that it shows a Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) employee being slapped by a dissatisfied customer.
Is it true that a Puspakom employee was slapped by a customer in Johor Baru?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed the incident, saying that a 59-year-old lorry driver had hit the Puspakom employee at the Taman Daya Puspakom branch.
He also said that the incident had actually happened on Nov 18, 2024, but a video clip of the incident had gone viral on social media recently.
“The 38-year-old Puspakom employee lodged a police report after he was slapped by the suspect when his lorry failed an inspection.
“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 16).
The offence is punishable with a maximum jail term of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if convicted.
The incident was captured in closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage where the suspect, in a collared T-shirt and shorts, was seen shouting at the Puspakom employee before and after slapping him.
The Puspakom employee, seemingly stunned by the suspect’s actions, backed away as the man continued shouting and pointing at a piece of paper that he was holding.
Two other Puspakom employees then approached the customer in an attempt to diffuse the situation.
ACP Raub urged the public to refrain from sharing the video to avoid speculation that could affect police investigations into the case.
He added that those with information on the incident can get in touch with the police by heading to the nearest police station or calling the Johor police hotline at 07-221 2999
