VERDICT:

TRUE

Police in the Lahad Datu district of Sabah have initiated a manhunt for a driver who evaded a roadblock and caused multiple vehicle collisions.

Lahad Datu district police chief Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail said the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled after reportedly hitting two other cars following his escape from the roadblock at Jalan Pantai in Lahad Datu around noon on Tuesday (Jan 14).

The driver initially attempted to evade the roadblock by driving against the traffic, resulting in several collisions.

"He then recklessly reversed his vehicle through the adjacent Jalan Mawar," said ACP Dzulbaharin, noting that the driver managed to escape despite police efforts to stop him.

Police later found the suspect's car involved in an accident with two other vehicles at Jalan Airport Lahad Datu-Sandakan.

"We are now tracking the suspect to assist with the investigation," he added.

ACP Dzulbaharin also urged all vehicle owners affected by the suspect's actions to file police reports.

The suspect's car has been seized and taken to the Lahad Datu Traffic Police Office for further action.

The case is under investigation under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Dzulbaharin encourages anyone with information about the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Muhammad Rasul Ramlee at 089-881255 or directly reach IPD Lahad Datu.
