QuickCheck: Is there an assistance scheme that credits RM200 into MyKad monthly?

SCAMMERS are constantly devising new methods to exploit unsuspecting victims. Whether it’s the promise of financial aid or masquerading as legitimate entities, these fraudsters use deceptive tactics, mainly on social media, to dupe victims into divulging personal information.

Recently, a viral TikTok post claims that there is a new aid scheme in which RM200 is credited monthly through a person's MyKad. Is there any truth in this?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Finance Ministry said the two TikTok accounts claiming to announce the MyKad assistance of RM200 for the year 2024 are fake.

“Checks have found that both of these accounts are asking victims to send personal information to the scammer's Telegram account.

“Be cautious and do not be easily fooled by such false offers on social media. Follow the official channels of the Finance Ministry and ensure the links are legitimate and correct. If in doubt, do not click on any link to avoid becoming a victim of fraud,” it added on its official Facebook page.
