QuickCheck: Are recreational activities at Cameron Highlands' forests suspended?

WHEN the weather forecast predicts thunderstorms and heavy rain, it’s often wise to reconsider outdoor activities.

Recently, an announcement regarding the temporary closure of recreational activities in Cameron Highlands’ Permanent Reserved Forests has captured public attention.

But is it true that all such activities will be put on hold?

Verdict:

TRUE

All recreational activities in the Permanent Reserved Forests (HSK) of Cameron Highlands district are temporarily closed from Sept 18 to 22.

The Pahang State Forestry Department explained via its Facebook page that the closure order follows weather forecasts predicting thunderstorms and rain in the district throughout the week.

According to the statement, activities affected include hiking in all HSK areas in Cameron Highlands, recreational activities in Mossy Forest Eco Park, and camping in Sungai Pauh Eco Park.

"For hiking and camping reservations made during the closure period, applicants are requested to contact the Cameron Highlands District Forestry Office to reschedule their bookings subject to date availability," the statement clarified.

Meanwhile, the canopy walkway activities in Pahang National Park (TNP) are also closed due to damage caused by a fallen tree.

The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) of Peninsular Malaysia announced on its Facebook page that the TNP Superintendent's Office will temporarily shut down canopy walkway operations starting Sept 18 until further notice.
