A few weeks before Swift arrived at the town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, a student initiated a petition and offered the name to the city's mayor, Karin Welge.
In a letter approving the project, Mayor Welge complimented the youngster for her "excellent idea".
The special tribute has been made by the city of Gelsenkirchen in honor of Taylor Swift who held her highly anticipated concerts there on July 17, 18, and 19.
Swiftie Aleshanee Westhoff, a student, displayed a yellow street sign on Tuesday that reads "Swiftkirchen," which roughly translates to "Swift's Church."

The town has been dubbed in her name temporarily in recognition of the significant influence she has had on the community.
According to city spokesman Markus Schwardtmann, many additional signs have been placed at "highly frequented locations" throughout the city, alongside the yellow sign featuring a pink photo of the pop icon in the city center.
Apart from this homage, Taylor Swift will be honored with a stone on the Gelsenkirchen Walk of Fame, where she will be placed alongside other prominent locals.
