Police here have detained nine locals for taking part in illegal racing activity along the tIsmail Sultan Highway and Second Link Highway following complaints from the public.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said police carried out an operation at the two locations on Monday (July 29) and added that the two locations were used regularly for illegal racing.
"We successfully detained nine aged between 17 and 28. The police seized eight motorcycles and issued two summonses for driving a motorcycle without a license,”he said on Thursday (August 1).
ACP Kumarasan added that the suspects were detained after driving dangerously, including performing the “Superman”stunt on their motorcycles.
“While racing, they also did a zig-zag stunt which put their lives and that of other road users at risk,”he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged the public, in particular parents and guardians, to help the police in addressing this unhealthy activity involving youth.
“Please monitor your children’s movement especially when they go out at night with a motorcycle. This is to avoid them from being involved in illegal, dangerous street racing," he added.
