QuickCheck: Is a viral TikTok video on seven states wanting to leave Malaysia true?

A VIDEO has gone viral on social media platform TikTok claiming that seven states want to secede from Malaysia.

The video lists Kedah, Sabah, Penang and Johor among the states that want to leave Malaysia.

Is it true that seven states want to secede from Malaysia?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to a video clip on RTM's Biar Betul! programme, the claims are obviously false.

It said that there are many conspiracy theories spread on social media without any basis, and this is one such case.

It added that there was no truth to the video and no credible sources were provided to back up its claims.

Biar Betul! also reminded Internet users that spreading fake news is a crime.

"If you receive fake news or slanderous media via social media, report it to the MCMC at 016-220 6262," the video explained.
