CAR chases are generally highly-dramatic events, especially when it involves an individual trying to escape the long arm of the law. As such, videos that claim to show actual car chases in action tend to go viral quickly.

Recently, two videos made waves online; in the videos a man can be seen ramming a police vehicle while speeding off in a bid to escape.

Did this happen in Perai, Penang as claimed online?

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris confirmed this, saying that a man with 12 prior cases in his criminal record was arrested for allegedly trying to steal a car in the area on May 15.

He said that a man in his 20s was arrested at Jalan Sungai Lembu, Machang Bubok and added that the police had received information from the public that a car had been stolen in the Megamall, Perai area.

"When police mobile patrol vehicles approached the car, the suspect sped off. The suspect was then chased and told to pull over, but refused to do so.

The suspect was arrested at Jalan Sungai Lembu, Machang Bubok. A police vehicle was rammed in the course of the chase," he said on Tuesday (May 21).
