Quick Check: Is 'Padu Department' calling people for their personal information?

SCAMS are prevalent everywhere, and one of their modus operandi is to pretend to be from a government agency to scam unsuspecting citizens.

Recently, some have received calls that are claimed to be from the Central Database Hub (Padu) Department asking for their personal information.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

In a post on X on Monday (May 13), the Economy Ministry warned the public to be wary of calls claiming to be from the ‘Padu Department’.

“This department does not exist, and the government has never called the public to ask for personal information,” it said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

These calls have been confirmed to be scam calls and are false.

It added that the public is advised not to be fooled by the calls and refrain from giving personal information over the phone.

Those seeking help relating to Padu matters should contact the hotline set up by the ministry instead at 0380902888.
