QuickCheck: Did a driver save a woman from being robbed in Kuching?


STORIES of Good Samaritans coming to the aid of people in need tend to go viral, especially when it involves a case of someone coming to the aid of a victim of crime.

Recently, a video of a driver coming to the aid of a woman who was being attacked by a snatch thief went viral and it is claimed that it happened in Sarawak.

Is it true that a man in Kuching helped thwart a snatch thief who tried to rob a woman?

Padawan acting police chief Deputy Supt Lim Jaw Shyong confirmed this, saying that the incident happened at 7.54am at Batu Kawa, Kuching on Tuesday (April 23).

He said that in the incident, a woman in her late 50s was walking alone when two men on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her handbag and added that the driver of a vehicle stopped to help the woman and managed to detain one of the suspects.

DSP Lim added that while one suspect was arrested, the other fled the scene on the motorcycle they were using.

"The victim suffered minor injuries and scratches," he said in a statement. The suspect will be brought to court on Wednesday (April 24) for remand while the other suspect is being tracked down.

DSP Lim thanked the man for his quick action and urged those with information on the incident to come forward.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
