QuickCheck: Are recent WhatsApp ads about 'plantation jobs' legit?

WHEN it comes to employment, it is logical that many people will be on the lookout for job openings - especially in this day and age where stable employment with a reputable company is essential to make ends meet.

Recently, ads started appearing on WhatsApp claiming that Sime Darby Plantation has job openings with competitive salaries.

Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

FALSE

In a statement issued on its official Facebook page, Sime Darby Plantation denied ever issuing such ads and warned potential recipients to be alert for them.

"Beware of deceptive WhatsApp messages claiming to offer jobs at Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (SD Plantation). These scammers are falsely promoting job opportunities at our Company," it said in the post.

"SD Plantation has NOT authorised any such job offers, interviews or hiring schemes. We have NOT delegated anyone to extend these offers to the public," added the company.

It said that people should rely solely on job opportunities communicated through its official channels.

"Stay vigilant and prioritise your safety," said the company.
