Verdict:

TRUE

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said 20 students have been arrested for allegedly beating up a 15-year-old boy.

He said three more suspects, all adults, were also detained in connection with the incident at Pantai Puteri, Tanjung Kling in Melaka.

DCP Zainol said all the arrests were made on Thursday (April 4) after a video of the incident was circulated on social media.

He said the suspects, whose ages range from 15 to 20, were nabbed around Tanjung Kling, Tanjung Minyak and Malim.

He said a preliminary investigation found that the incident happened on March 29 stemming from an earlier misunderstanding between the victim and a group of students.

DCP Zainol said the victim's 65-year-old grandmother also lodged a police report on Sunday (March 31).

"The victim, a Form Three student, suffered injuries and is still being treated at Hospital Melaka," he said on Friday (April 5).

DCP Zainol said police also confiscated three helmets and a blunt object believed to have been used during the alleged assault.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting. Offenders face a maximum jail term of five years, a fine or both upon conviction.
