QuickCheck: Did a motorist turn himself in over a viral speeding video in Sarawak?

Speeding has become a norm that has led to numerous accidents. In several instances, the accidents become hit-and-run cases with police unable to find the culprits.

So did the driver of a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle turn himself in after his speeding video went viral?

Sarawak traffic police received a complaint on Monday (April 1) about a social media video on March 4 of an individual speeding along the Pan Borneo Highway.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Anak Ata said police viewed the incident seriously and started looking for the motorist involved.

"The driver was tracked down on Tuesday (April 2) and told to present himself at the Kuching police station," said Comm Mancha in a statement.

"He admitted to the speeding offence and a summons was issued under Section 079 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987... for offences such as driving without brake lights, modifying equipment, fancy number plates and modifying exhaust pipes.

"The vehicle was seized under Section 60 (1) of the same Act for further investigation," added Comm Mancha.
