QuickCheck: Are the RM1,000 Ramadan cash aid ads on social media legitimate?

THE latest viral messages and social media advertisements about cash aid now claim that RM1,000 is being given out for Ramadan.

The messages claim that many applicants have successfully received the money. Of course, those interested are requested to click on a link to furnish their particulars.

Is Ramadan cash aid really being offered?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to a video clip on RTM's Biar Betul programme, it is "clickbait and a strategy to invite more people to like the page or for advertisement income".

It said the tactic was also used by scammers to phish users' data.

Those who click on such links risk their personal details falling into the wrong hands, it added.

"Do not fall for scams and report such activities to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission," it said.
