THE sale of firearms - whether real or fake - tends to generate a buzz whenever it happens here in Malaysia due to their rarity and the very strict laws around such merchandise.

It was claimed recently that a woman was nabbed by the police in Papar, Sabah for selling fake firearms. Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The police raided a shop for selling imitation firearms in the Papar district, about 40km from Kota Kinabalu.

A team from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the shop in the town district at 2.30pm on Wednesday (March 13) and detained a 37-year-old woman there.

Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said his men found 12 fake weapons at the shop.

The imitation firearms seized were labelled as "M416 automatic rifle", "Airsoft Gun Combat Master", "Airsoft Gun Glock", "Airsoft Gun 731B", "M17", "C11" and "Airsoft Gun C.1".

“We also seized seven containers filled with an assortment of pellets,” he said when contacted on Thursday (March 14).
