QuickCheck: Are scammers phishing data from Rahmah Cash Aid applicants?

MESSAGES containing links to apply for Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) have been making the rounds on messaging platforms and social media.

It is said, however, that the links actually connect to phishing sites that aim to collect victims' important data such as MyKad and bank account numbers.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a statement on the STR website, the Inland Revenue Board has warned the public to beware of such fraudulent tactics.

The board said it had never appointed any individual or third party to answer queries from the public regarding STR.

As such, it warned the public not to click on any links that are dubious or from unverified sources.

It said all STR information should only be obtained from the official portal at https://bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my/
