QuickCheck: Did two friends escape unscathed after a luxury car caught fire on a highway?

WITH the current heatwave, fires have been reported in many parts of the country, but sometimes, it's not the weather that may be the cause.

Recently, it was reported that two friends faced some anxious moments when the luxury car they were travelling in caught fire while they were driving on a highway in the north.

Did a luxury care catch fire on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Gurun?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Guar Chempedak fire and rescue station chief Asst Fire Supt Mohd Fauzi Razali told Bernama that his team had received an emergency call regarding the incident, which happened at KM82 of the NSE, at 3.18pm on Sunday (Feb 18).

"Preliminary information received was that the fire involved a luxury car that was 90% razed along the expressway," he said in a statement.

"It is understood that before the incident, the driver and passenger saw smoke emitting from the car...The driver then stopped the car along the roadside and both of them ran before the car completely caught fire."

Mohd Fauzi said nine members of the Guar Chempedak fire and rescue station helped to completely douse the flames at 4.08pm, Bernama reported.
