QuickCheck: Is the NSRC being impersonated by scammers yet again?

WHEN it comes to scams and scammers, one tactic often used is to impersonate government bodies in the hope of tricking someone into thinking they're the subject of an official investigation.

One repeated target of this is the National Scam Resource Centre (NSRC); are they being impersonated by scammers again?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Scammers are indeed up to their old tricks by impersonating the NSRC, with Bank Negara confirming this in a post on their official Facebook account.

"Be vigilant as this deceitful tactic is on the rise - stay cautious! Beware of imposters posing as NSRC, falsely alleging crimes," it said in the post.

It added that the NSRC and other authorities will never call a person and will never ask for sensitive banking details such as OTP or passwords.

"If you have fallen victim to a financial scam, immediately call your bank or NSRC at 997," it added.
