A VIDEO of a news report from a local TV station has been used to promote an investment scheme allegedly set up by Elon Musk for Malaysians.
In the video advertised on social media, the news anchors promise that the scheme gives investors good results 98% of the time.
However, something seems 'off' about the news report with its outlandish claims that are too good to be true.
Is it true that scammers have doctored an actual news report to peddle their fake investment scheme?
Verdict:
TRUE
An investigation by Biar Betul has shown that the alleged news report is actually a fake.
The video, which featured two local news anchors, had been edited together to make it seem like they were reporting on a legitimate investment scheme.
"According to the TV station, the news report was not published by them," said the report from Biar Betul on its Facebook page.
"Instead, it is suspected to be modified from the original content by an investment syndicate trying to convince the public.
"To prevent people becoming victims of the scam, the TV station reported the video to MCMC and the police,” it added.
