QuickCheck: Is a popular bookshop chain organising a book give-away as some posts claim?

BOOKS are the original repository of information (and stories) and have been popular in one shape or form ever since people started writing and bookshops have generally been the place for people to buy them.

Recently, there have been a spate of posts on social media claiming the decline of MPH Bookstores, and these posts also come with a claim that a book give-away is being organised. The posts seem dubious at best as the pages they are placed on have strange errors in their names.

So is it true that MPH is actually organising a book give-away?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to a post on MPH Bookstores' official Facebook page, MPH Click, these posts are actually being put up by irresponsible parties impersonating the MPH brand.

These fake pages are part of a scam to lure in MPH's customers in order to get a hold of their personal data.

In the post, MPH stressed that it was not associated in any way with those pages and that it did not run free book give-aways.

They also said that they would never ask their customers to send them their private data via private message.

They then went on to thank its customers for giving them the heads-up on those fake pages as well as for their continued support.

Meanwhile, a test of the post itself has found that those who click on the "Message" button on Facebook are directed to send a WhatsApp message to a person named "Cindy".
