QuickCheck: Is a ‘ghost’ video at the Johor Bomba HQ legitimate?

SPOOKY tales and videos of the supernatural are always a crowd-thriller, and tend to go viral once shared on social media along with any claim and dark story about the place where the video was taken. Recently, a 39-second video went viral of an empty chair at the Johor Fire and Rescue Department headquarters rocking by itself as if someone is sitting in it.

Is there a ghost at its Jalan Kangkar Tebrau building, as claimed in the video?

VERDICT:

FALSE

There is no ghost at the Department's headquarters, says Johor acting fire chief Mohd Rizal Buang.

He added that the video was in fact a prank played by a fireman on his colleague and said that it was actually shot four years ago but had resurfaced recently.

In the 39-second clip, a fireman calls out to his colleague to check out a rocking chair, which rocks back and forth by itself as though an "invisible person" is sitting on it.

As the workmate moves slowly towards the chair, a bunting stand near it falls on the floor, followed by a flower pot seconds later.

It ends with one of the firemen suggesting that they had better run.

On the current situation at the Department's headquarters in Johor, Mohd Rizal said he had not had any supernatural encounters.

He said his colleagues in the operation room for the floods, which operates round-the-clock, had not seen any ghosts either.

"None of my personnel ever said they were being disturbed. In fact, we have a major event right now, and firemen from all over the country are here," he added on Monday (March 20).
