QuickCheck: Is cash aid being given out via ewallets under the Malaysia Madani programme?

According to a viral message that has been circulating on messaging apps, the government is offering RM200 cash aid under the Malaysia Madani programme, to be credited to applicants' ewallets.

Is this true?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to the Finance Ministry, this 'cash aid programme' is hands-down non-existent.

In a post on its social media, the ministry pegged the advert as fake news and that no such programme exists.

The programme allegedly offers applicants RM200 to be credited to their ewallets, adding that the 'link' to apply was included in the bio of the poster.

The Star would like to remind its readers that clicking on random links given out by unknown individuals via social media is a highly dangerous practice.

Always double-check the information provided by such ads and always refer to official channels to verify any programmes or offers forwarded online.
