QuickCheck: Is a local bank advertising loans on social media?

RECENTLY, a claim emerged online that Public Bank is using social media to advertise loans with low interest rates. Is this true?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a post on its official Facebook account, Public Bank said that these advertisements are fake and meant to trick unsuspecting victims.

"Do not click or respond to the advertisement. These advertisements are fake and are most likely phishing websites designed to steal your personal information," said the bank.

"Please go through our official channels to access our banking services. If in doubt, you can always contact any Public Bank branch for additional information," it added.

In a graphic sent via email to account-holders, the bank said that one of the key signs that it is fake is that the page is not the official Public Bank social media page.

"The spelling for 'PBe' is not correct. The bank will never misspell banking services. Public Bank does not accept loan applications via social media platforms," it said.
