QuickCheck: Did a car chase in Sibu happen as claimed online?


A VIDEO has been making its rounds online of a car chase that supposedly happened in Sibu recently.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

According to police, the video clip was actually of an incident that happened on Friday (Jan 13) at 9.15pm at a parking lot on Jalan Lau King Jowe in Sibu, Sarawak.

The Sibu district police headquarters released a press statement on its Facebook page saying that the incident involved four policemen who had stopped at the parking lot to investigate a suspicious MPV.

When the policemen made themselves known, the driver of the MPV suddenly attempted to flee but reversed into a parked police vehicle.

The driver then took off before ramming into another car after he ran a red traffic light at an intersection.

Police finally managed to apprehend the 22-year-old driver and his 18-year-old female passenger at Jalan Quarry in Sibu.

The statement then went on to say that the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
