QuickCheck: Did a wild elephant attack cause a death in Pahang?


REPORTS that an Orang Asli woman died after being trampled by wild elephants at Kg Simoi Baru near Kuala Lipis have been making the rounds.

Is this true?

Lipis OCPD Supt Azli Mohd Noor said 39-year-old Wak Angkat Yok Tong was found dead after a group of wild elephants attacked the wooden house where she and eight other family members were sleeping in the 4am Tuesday (Dec 6) incident.

According to him, the house had bamboo walls and was next to a grove of banana trees.

"The wild elephants attacked the house and all nine were woken up by the shaking walls. They tried to escape in the dark.

"When they regrouped, they discovered the victim was missing and immediately began searching for her.

"They found her body near the banana trees," Supt Azli said.

He added that the body had been brought to the Lipis Hospital Forensic unit for a post-mortem.
