LATE last week, it was claimed online that a Malaysian man had to pay over RM10,000 for damaging several vehicles in southern Thailand through dangerous driving at a parking lot. Did this really happen as claimed?

A Malaysian man had to pay almost 100,000 baht (RM12,438) to four vehicle owners in Hatyai, Songkhla due to his dangerous "drifting" in a parking lot.
In the incident at about 1pm (local time) on Oct 28, the 32-year-old motorist drifted in a parking lot at an elephant camp, Chang Puak Camp, in Hatyai.
Following the stunt, a car and three tuk-tuks in the parking lot suffered damage including broken mirrors and scratches.
The errant motorist then left the scene without realising the damage that had been caused.
Hatyai Tourist Police chief Lt Col Pol Anuwat Rithichai said the vehicle owners lodged a police report the same day.
"The police managed to locate the vehicle that the Malaysian man was driving at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex in Sadao, Thailand, at about 6pm yesterday (Saturday).
"The driver and his wife have been taken to the police station to meet the owners of the affected vehicles," he said at a press conference on Sunday (Oct 30).
Lt Col Anuwat said it was agreed that the Malaysian would pay 99,000 baht to the four vehicle owners.
The man also apologised for not realising that the drift had damaged other vehicles.
