Cops debunk misleading video, picture of firearms seizure

SHAH ALAM: Police say a video clip, apparently of a firearms seizure linked to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), is fake.

A video clip and photo showing weapons and firearms seized from a warehouse, allegedly linked to a communist faction and LTTE, recently went viral on social media.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the post was untrue and misleading.

"The video clip was from a press conference by Selangor police on July 30 last year on the seizure of airsoft rifles.

"However, the photos that accompanied the post were from a firearms seizure by Kedah police in 2014," he said in a statement on Friday (May 28).

Comm Arjunaidi said posting such misleading information could cause alarm and disrupt public order.

"We are investigating the matter under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Don't share or spread unverified news," he said.
