KUALA LUMPUR: The accident that caused the death of Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng was not due to an oil spill on the road, the police have confirmed.
Denying rumours that have gone viral on social media and via WhatsApp, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said there was an oil spill – but this was the result of the accident itself.
“I can confirm the oil spill occurred after the accident,” he told reporters at Police Training Centre on Friday.
The accident occurred at around 12.40am on Friday (July 20). Ng was travelling along the Grand Saga Expressway headed to Kajang in a Nissan X-Trail car when he collided into the back of a lorry near KM11.7.
Ng, who had just celebrated his 40th birthday on July 5, died at the scene.
The DAP assemblyman is survived by his wife and three children aged 13, 15 and 17.
In GE14, Ng defeated Barisan Nasional's Lim Chin Wah and PAS' Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali by a majority of 35,538 votes.
His death will force the second by-election after the 14th general election.
The first is due to be held on Aug 4 for the Sg Kandis state constituency following the death of its assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafie, 50, of PKR, on July 2 due to lymphoma cancer.
