SHANGHAI: Shanghai will lower its public health emergency response to the Covid-19 epidemic from the highest to the second-highest level today, according to the Shanghai municipal government.

The government announced that the decision to do so was due to the fact that there have not been any new cases from the locality since March 3.

The government said it would continue to attach importance to the prevention and control of the epidemic, with focus on imported cases.

Meanwhile, organisations in Shanghai have been shipping face masks to countries affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries said on Saturday that it had sent face masks to friendship organisations in 10 countries, including Italy, Japan and the United States.

The first batch of face masks was shipped on March 13 and was received by the association’s counterpart in Osaka, Japan. — China Daily/ANN
