Duterte sacks immigration officials as graft unveiled

Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the sacking of immigration officials and employees allegedly involved in a bribery scheme allowing hundreds of thousands of China nationals to illegally work for Philippine offshore gaming operators, or Pogos, as a whistleblower unravelled more details of payoffs during a Senate hearing.“The President considers this anomaly, which some define as the ‘pastillas scheme’, as a grave form of corruption which cannot be countenanced by the government, ” said spokesman Salvador Panelo on Thursday.

He did not say how many were sacked, but immigration spokesman Dana Sandoval said 19 were fired.
