PHNOM PENH (ANN): A 32-year-old immigration police officer at Battambang province’s Doung International Check Point was arrested and sent to the National Police for questioning on Wednesday (Dec 12) after firing his pistol 14 times in a drunken state at O’Da Leu village, Boeung Raing commune, Kamrieng district on Tuesday night.
No one was harmed in the incident, district police said.
Doung International Check Point chief Phat Sophana confirmed the arrest of the officer who is a section chief at his unit.
The disciplinary council of the National Police, Sophana said, is questioning him and will decide on what action to take against him.
Nget Vanna, a unit chief at Kamring district police station, said the officer drove his Lexus RX 300 to a restaurant where he drank alcohol with other people. At 10:30pm, he was seen returning to his car and taking out his Sig Sauer pistol, which he fired 14 times.
Local police arrested him at the scene, where several shell casings were also recovered. Authorities also seized his car and the pistol which was still loaded with three bullets. Another 106 bullets found in his car were also seized.
