JAKARTA: Less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), despite the fact that women make up almost half of the world population.
In an effort to recognise and encourage women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem), two international companies have given awards to nine Indonesian women whose research has helped the world.
