BEIJING: The National Ballet of China presented a show dedicated to women in the cause of the Chinese revolution to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.

Yimeng, A Ballet in Three Chapters was performed at Beijing Tianqiao Theatre from Friday till yesterday.

In three parts – Bridge under fire, The virgin bride and Passions of Yimeng – the ballet portrays courageous women of Yimeng Mountains in present-day Shandong Province who made sacrifices of themselves and their families for the revolution that eventually led to the birth of New China.

“We put this through after two years of meticulous preparation,” said Feng Ying, head of the ballet.

“We wanted to pay tribute to the Yimeng heroines and champion their spirits of struggle, dedication and perseverance.” — Xinhua
