BANGKOK (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): A Thai princess will stand as a candidate for prime minister in the March 24 elections, for a party linked to the Shinawatra political clan.

The 67-year-old Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, the elder sister of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn, was nominated by the Thai Raksa Chart Party. Her nomination breaks the long-standing tradition of Thai royalty staying out of politics.
