Jail sentence suspended for Japanese ex-pop idol Yoshizawa over drunken hit-and-run

TOKYO (AP): Hitomi Yoshizawa, a former member of the all-girl J-pop group Morning Musume, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison, suspended for five years, for injuring two people in a hit-and-run incident in September while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the ruling handed down at the Tokyo District Court, the 33-year-old ran a red light at 86km/h on the morning of September 6 in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward, hit a female cyclist and then a male pedestrian before fleeing the scene.
