Phnom Penh: The President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte and his delegates, including Filipino senator and professional boxer Manny Pacquiao, have begun their two-day visit to Cambodia.
Duterte and Pacquiao were warmly welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Kong Sam Ol and Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith.
This visit was done at the invitation of the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni.
After the arrival, Duterte will meet the Filipino community in Cambodia and will be received in a royal audience by the king and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen today.
Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher Montero earlier said Hun Sen personally admires Duterte for “standing up” against the West in calling for non-interference in state affairs.
Cambodia is a known close ally of China and both leaders are expected to talk on many issues.
Two documents are to be signed during the visit, the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in combating transnational crime and the memorandum of agreement on sports cooperation. — Rasmei Kampuchea/Asia News Network
