TOKYO: A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said, with no immediate reports of damage, as a powerful typhoon lashed the country's far south.
The Japan Meteorological Agency put the quake's strength slightly higher at 5.8 magnitude, adding that there was no risk of a tsunami.
